This will be the first time Karan Johar is all set for Horror Genre. It stars “Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead. The franchise will kick off with Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship, directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh and starring Vicky Kaushal. The movie is scheduled to be released on November 15. In a press release, Johar said that he had acquired permission for the use of the “Bhoot” title from Ram Gopal Varma, who’s Bhoot (2003) is counted as one of the best Indian horror films ever made. Varma also directed a sequel, Bhoot 2, in 2012.
Announcing the title of the first part, Karan also expressed his gratitude towards Ram Gopal for sharing the title of his film for Dharma’s maiden horror venture. Apart from this Karan has directed Vicky Kaushal in a separate story in the anthology Netflix film Lust Stories, so, technically this the filmmaker-actor duo’s second collaboration, Bhoot was also the title of Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar’s 2003 horror film set in Mumbai, which was directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
Before “Bhoot” Dharma Productions is associated with the romance and drama genres. Its only foray into horror was Kaal, which was made in 2005 in collaboration with Red Chillies Entertainment.
On the work front Vicky Kaushal was last seen in Uri :The Surgical Strike and his upcoming include “Bhoot: The Haunted Ship”. And Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in Ayushmann Khurrana starrer “Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.
